Formerly a lifestyle magazine journalist, and award-winning Special Reports Editor at The Scotsman Publications, Gabe Stewart gained a reputation for professionalism, confidentiality and commitment to quality in the media.

Witnessing firsthand the effects of negative stress, Gabe learned how to improve her own well-being, which in turn led her to a change of career.

Gabe was initially trained by renowned New Zealand holistic massage teacher Lolit Gilbert, with whom she attained a merit in the ITEC Diploma in Massage (recognised by the NHS).

She subsequently attained a 91% pass mark in her Advanced Clinical Massage Therapist (ACMT) Certificate from the Jing Institute of Advanced Massage Training in Brighton, England, UK. This course qualifies her to practise trigger point therapy, myofascial release (MFR), forearm massage, sports stretching and table shiatsu. Gabe also holds certificates in pregnancy massage, massage for people with cancer, holistic facial massage, deep tissue massage, Indian head massage and reflexology.

Gabe is currently studying for the Jing Level 6 BTEC diploma in Advanced Clinical and Sports Massage, which is the highest-level massage qualification in the UK and equivalent to a degree. This two-and-a-half year long course includes 57 days of teaching and equips graduates with a toolbox filled with various massage techniques from both Eastern and Western traditions, chosen for their efficacy in treating chronic pain. They include neuromuscular techniques, muscle energy techniques, cranio sacral therapy and visceral manipulation.

Gabe enrolled because she is committed to joining an elite band of Jing practitioners who are recognised by many of their medically-qualified peers as being among best qualified and most professional massage therapists in the UK.

She is a member of the Complementary Therapists Association and the Complementary and Natural Healthcare Council and is a registered First Aider with St Andrews First Aid.

As well as undertaking original research in the field of massage, Gabe's continuing professional development plans for the future also include undertaking training in manual lymph drainage, completing her training in the Kinesio taping method and researching seasonal affective disorder and vitamin D deficiency; more specifically into the efficacy of UVB radiation and SAD lamps.

In her spare time, Gabe loves heated discussions in book club and keeping up to date with the latest in arts and science. She also enjoys running, hillwalking, Pilates, yoga and kayaking.
